Arrest made in connection with McCarthy death

Gardaí investigating the death of Clare woman Deirdre McCarthy have made an arrest.

The man in his late 30s was arrested under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act on suspicion of the killing of the 43-year-old Ballyvaughan woman whose body was recovered at Fanore Strand last Thursday.

The suspect is believed to be from Clare but was arrested in Galway this afternoon and is now being detained for questioning at Ennis garda station.
