Corcoran killer loses murder appeal

Oliver Hayes has lost an appeal against his conviction for the murder of Cork widow Anne Corcoran.

The painter decorator from Clancool Terrace, Bandon had pleaded guilty to manslaughter but had denied murdering her between January 19-21, 2009.

His counsel argued the verdict was unsafe because the trial judge Mr Justice Paul Carney had confused the jury when explaining to them the definition of murder, particularly the issue of intent .

However, the three-judge court today found Mr Justice Carney’s explanation to be impeccable, and dismissed the appeal concluding it had absolutely no substance.
