A study has found that less than one in ten drivers are adhering to speed limits.

The research was carried out by Continental Tyres and monitored the speed of vehilces in a 30 kilometre per hour zone along the quays in Dublin city centre.

The restricted speed limit was introduced by Dublin City Council last year.

The highest speed recorded in the survey - which covered all vehicle types including cars, motor bikes, vans, trucks and buses - was a van travelling nearly twice the permitted speed, at 58 kilometres per hour.
