Two charged in connection with cannabis haul

Two men have been charged after the discovery of €250,000 worth of herbal cannabis in Galway.

Michael Connolly of Doon East, Roscahill and Gerard Mooney of Ballyconlought, Headford were brought before Galway District Court earlier today.

Around 20 kilos of the drug was discovered when Customs officers and Gardaí searched two cars at a car-park in Oranmore yesterday.

The drugs were found in a bag which had been imported to Dublin Port from Belgium before being transferred under surveillance to Galway.

The men, aged 45 and 49, have been remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District Court on Friday.
