A prominent economist has said the new government should push for a Europe-wide agreement to address the banking crisis.

Colm McCarthy, who chaired the group which became known as 'An Bord Snip Nua' in 2009, has said there is a reluctance at a senior level in Europe to acknowledge that the crisis is continuing.
