Man jailed for takeaway attack

A Dublin man has been given a two-year suspended sentence for his role in an unprovoked attack on two men at a takeaway restaurant following a night out.

Carl Turner (aged 22) of St. Eithne Road, Cabra, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one count of violent disorder and two counts of assault at Abrakebabra in Phibsboro on May 12, 2008.

The court heard that Mr Christopher Fiennes had been celebrating an engagement and had gone to Abrakebabra for food.

A fight broke out when a third man was hit by a jelly bean and confronted Mr Fiennes.

He was Thomas Magee (aged 31) of Blackhall Street, who has already been sentenced to 18 months in jail for his role.

The defendant Turner joined the fracas, in which a second man, who had intervened, was also assaulted.

The two victims were treated for cuts and bruises in hospital.
