An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a crude but viable improvised explosive device (IED) in the Johnsgate Village area of Limerick City early this morning.

An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe a crude but viable improvised explosive device (IED) in the Johnsgate Village area of Limerick City early this morning.

The Army Bomb Disposal Team arrived at the scene at 1.30am, the device was made safe at the scene and the scene was declared safe at 2.45am.

The remains of the device have been handed over to the gardaí for their investigations.

This is the 32nd call out for Army Bomb Disposal Teams this year and the second viable IED they have made safe.
