A friend of one of the survivors of yesterday's plane crash in Cork has said he requested to change seats a number of times, but staff could not oblige - and that might have saved his life.

Sorcha O'Connor from Cork said her friend, 22-year-old Donal Walsh from Waterford, had requested to move seats on the flight.

He had been seated at the back of the plane, but felt claustrophobic and asked to be moved to the front, near the emergency exits.

The staff could not oblige him, which may have saved his life.

Donal is expected to be released from hospital today.
