A man in his 30s has been killed in a car crash in Co Louth, while a six-year-old girl remains seriously ill after a crash on the Cork-Limerick road, in which a one-year-old boy died.

A man in his 30s has been killed in a car crash in Co Louth, while a six-year-old girl remains seriously ill after a crash on the Cork-Limerick road, in which a one-year-old boy died.

At 3.15am today, a man in his 30s died when the car he was driving left the road and collided with a ditch near Philipstown, Hackballscross just outside Dundalk.

The road is closed as a Garda technical examination is carried out.

Meanwhile, a six-year-old is still being treated in the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Limerick after a two-car collision yesterday afternoon.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened on the N20 Limerick to Cork road at around 4.15

The driver of the car - who is the mother of one of the children - was injured, but not seriously hurt.
