Father who lost son calls for regulation of gas-systems installation

The father of a young man who died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning two years ago is appealing to the Government to introduce legislation to regulate gas systems after the death of a woman in Cork.

Miriam Reidy died in Kinsale at the weekend while on a hen weekend, in a case of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

The Co Limerick woman was found on the floor of her room on the Trident Hotel, next to her unconscious sister.

Cathal Hughes, whose son Padraig died at Christmas two years ago, says regulation is required of the installation of gas equipment and solid-fuel ranges in homes.

"In my case, I had a new boiler (and) I had it serviced,...but the boiler malfunctioned some time early in the morning while we were all asleep in bed."
