Opposition: Cowen should have reported to Gardaí investigating Anglo

It appears the Greens will wait until after tomorrow's Dáil sitting to decide whether the Taoiseach Brian Cowen has dealt with the controversy surrounding his dealings with the former Anglo Chairman, Seán Fitzpatrick.

Meanwhile, the Opposition is also expected to pile pressure on Mr Cowen over the issue, saying he should have made a statement to Gardaí.

In a radio interview this morning, Green Party Chairman, Senator Dan Boyle was asked if the party was satisfied with the Taoiseach's explanation.

He said they are happy with the process that was put in place, with the written explanation, but that the Taoiseach also needs to answer questions in the public forum of the Dáil.

That cannot happen before tomorrow afternoon, so it appears the Greens will now hold off on giving a final verdict on Mr Cowen until then.

The issue is being discussed by the Greens at a party think-tank in North Dublin today.

Meanwhile, Fine Gael is expected to pile more pressure on the Taoiseach today.

The Opposition believes Mr Cowen was derelict in his duty in not reporting to Gardaí investigating alleged wrongdoing at Anglo his contacts with Seán Fitzpatrick and the contents of any conversation they had.
