Crews out to restore water supplies

Local authority crews across the country are working to repair leaks, restore water supplies and replenish reservoir levels.

Thousands of households are still without water today after the thaw caused many pipes to burst.

Restrictions will remain in place in many parts, particularly in the Dublin region where supplies are being reduced between 6pm and 9am over the coming days.

Sligo, Mayo, Galway, Cork, Kilkenny, Limerick and Kerry are among the worst-affected areas.

Brian McKeown, a Dublin City Council engineer, confirmed the problems with supplies were being experienced nationwide.

Water tankers are being provided at various locations, with details available on local authority websites.
