Big freeze to continue, but snowfall to reduce

Our airports are all open for business, despite the weather, but there is some travel disruption because of the snow and ice.

Thousands of kilometres of roads remain treacherous and more snow is forecast. Motorists are being warned to exercise extreme care.

Conditions on footpaths are also hazardous.

Gerald Fleming of Met Éireann said that, although there may not be so much snowfall in coming days, the big freeze is set to continue.

"Beyond Monday, it seems like it will be just dry, cold weather, for three or four days, very cold nights and sunny days…That's obviously much easier to deal with," he said.

Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports are all operating, as is Ireland West airport at Knock.

Air travellers are facing delays and disruption, however, due to airport closures and flight cancellations in London and other European cities.

Intending passengers are advised to check with their airline.

Bus Éireann said it was trying to run a full schedule, but delays and curtailments were likely in worst-affected areas.

Dublin Bus, Irish Rail and Luas services are all operating as normal.
