The Smithwick Tribunal is preparing to take evidence in public.

The inquiry into allegations of Garda collusion in the murders of two senior RUC men by the IRA, was set up five years ago.

The Sunday Business Post reports the tribunal has already cost €6.5m.

RUC Chief Superintendent Harry Breen and Superintendent Robert Buchanan were shot dead in 1989 in Co Armagh, as they returned from a meeting with Gardaí in Dundalk.
