Gardaí investigate death of man in Co Mayo

A post mortem is due to be carried out today on the body of a man found outside his Co Mayo home on Thursday.

John McCann, of Barnacogue, Swinford, who was in his forties, was found dead in the snow.

It is believed his death may be weather related.

Meanwhile, motorists are being advised to continue to take care on the M9 in Co Kildare today.

A major operation was undertaken yesterday to clear snow from the motorway.

It is hoped there will be a minimum effect on traffic today as the thaw continues.

Gardaí say drivers should continue to drive with extra care on all routes as icy patches remain in places.

Eircom will continue its efforts today to repair thousands of faults around the country caused by bad weather.

Telephone and broadband faults are still being reported in Wicklow, Carlow, Wexford, Laois and Meath.

Around 3,500 were reported yesterday and Eircom said more than 7,000 were repaired during the week.

Additional staff will be sent to the Wicklow area from Monday.
