Big freeze to continue for up to a week

Met Éireann has warned today that there is no sign of an end in the Arctic weather, with the freezing temperatures expected to hang over the country for up to a week.

Forecasters say between five and 10cm of fresh snow will hit much of the country today.

Public transport services are running, but as the winter weather continues to play havoc, delays and cancellations can be expected.

"The extremely cold weather really is set to stay with us, certainly until up to midweek, with further frosty, icy conditions in store," said Siobhan Ryan from Met Éireann.

"There’s going to be some further snow, most likely over the next 36 hours, with really significant snow accumulating during daylight hours today."
