Mountain rescue crews warn against travelling near mountains

Mountain rescue crews in Wicklow are advising motorists to avoid making journeys anywhere near the mountains after five young men had a lucky escape last night.

The group were rescued after their two jeeps became trapped in snow drifts near Lough Bray on the north side of the Sally Gap.

They had to wait for eight hours while teams from the Glen of Imaal Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team and Dublin/Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team made their way.

At midnight, crews eventually reached a point 300 metres from the group, and the young men were able to walk down the last section where they were transported to Enniskerry.
