Operations were suspended again last night due to heavy snowfalls and ice on the runway, however a spokesperson said the airport will be back to a full service today.

Fresh snowfall has been reported across much of the east, northeast and midlands, bringing further treacherous conditions for motorists.

Conditions are not easy for those using public transport either, with many having faced marathon journeys home yesterday.

In Dublin, Luas services are expected to run as normal this morning after some disruption last night.

Irish Rail also said it is planning a full service, with some minor delays. The Docklands Station in Dublin is closed and M3 services are running to and from Connolly.

Many Bus Eireann services had to finish early last night, but the company said it will be doing its best to run as much of the timetable as possible today. The situation will be monitored throughout the morning.

It's a similar picture for Dublin Bus, which had to suspend services at 8pm last night.

All transport companies are advising passengers to check their websites for latest updates.

Met Eireann is advising us to expect another very cold and icy day ahead with further sleet and snow showers.

An Post says it will make every effort to ensure there is no disruption to pension and social welfare payements on Friday.

However the company is advising customers that the delivery of mail will be significantly curtailed for the remainder of the week due to the adverse weather.

Meanwhile much of the southeast also saw further snowfall over night.

Gritters and snowploughs have been out and about treating main roads but back roads remain treacherous and garda advice is not to travel if you can avoid it.

Some of the worst areas are Tramore, Wexford, Gorey, New Ross and Carlow.

Hundreds of schools in the region are now shut and many Bus Eireann services in the South East are subject to disruption and cancellation.

Irish rail continues to operate a full service in the region but delays are likely.

The runway at Waterford airport remains closed this morning with flights being diverted to Cork.
