Two policemen were injured after an explosive was hurled at them in Belfast.

The device exploded on the ground at Shaw’s Road last night and flying debris hit them. The officers, who were investigating a robbery at a bookmakers, were taken to hospital.

A spokeswoman for PSNI said the injuries were not thought to be life threatening.

She said: “Two male police officers have been taken to hospital for treatment with injuries that are not thought to be life threatening at this stage.”

Officers appealed for a cyclist who was near the scene at the time of the explosion to come forward and said the robbery was still being investigated.
