Pensioner dies after attack
A pensioner died today after he was assaulted on his way home from a pigeon club.
Jim “Sunshine” Heasley, 70, from Craig Gardens in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, was attacked in the city on October 17.
Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway said: “Following Jim’s death in hospital today, this investigation has now become a murder inquiry.
“This was an unprovoked attack on a defenceless 70-year-old man who was on his way home after a night out with his friends.”
A well-known and respected member of the community, he left a pigeon club in Longstone Street and was attacked in Manor Park.
A man aged 47 was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and has appeared in court.
The victim was being treated in Belfast City Hospital.
Police want to speak to a blonde woman and a man seen walking into Manor Park some time shortly after 1am.
