Judge refuses bail for pair charged with firearms offences

A judge has refused bail to two Dublin men charged in connection with the alleged test firing of guns in one of their back gardens.

Karl Hyland (aged 22) of St Attracta's Road, Cabra, and Anthony Sharlott (aged 21), with an address at Fordstown, Navan, in Co Meath, had been charged with three counts under the Firearms Act.

They are accused of possessing a Browning pistol, a revolver and 37 rounds of ammunition on October at 14 at Mr Hyland's address.

The Garda Organised Crime Unit, with support from the Emergency Response Unit, had carried out searches in the Cabra area that evening.

Two firearms and ammunition were allegedly seized and four men and one woman were arrested. Three have been released pending further investigation.

Mr Hyland and Mr Sharlott had been charged and remanded in custody until today at Cloverhill District Court, where they each applied for bail.

Judge William Early refused bail in both cases. He remanded Mr Sharlott in custody until November 5 and Hyland until November 18 in the same court.
