Legal argument continues in drive-by shooting trial

The trial of a Limerick man charged with shooting another Limerick man to death continued in the absence of the jury today at the Central Criminal Court.

Stephen O’Sullivan (aged 20), of Galtee View, O’Malley Park, Southill has pleaded not guilty to murdering Mark Moloney (aged 40) at South Claughan Road, Garryowen, Limerick on April 5, 2008.

Mr Moloney was fatally shot in his back as he chatted on the street that Saturday afternoon. The trial has heard that the drive-by shooting happened minutes after he left his partner to visit his mother.

Mr Justice Barry White told the six women and six men jury of jury that a legal issue had arisen, which must be dealt with in their absence. He told them not to return to court until Tuesday morning.

The trial is expected to last three to four weeks.
