'Most significant change in 200 years' as mayoral legislation published

Legislation to provide for a directly elected Mayor of Dublin has been published.

The Environment Minister John Gormley is describing the planned election as the most significant change to Irish local government since the 19th century.

The Mayor of Dublin will work with local government in Dublin and the wider public service to deliver for the Dublin region.

No date has yet been set for the election.
