The Special Criminal Court has reserved judgment in the trial of a Co Kildare man accused of membership of an unlawful organisation.

John O' Reilly (aged 34), of Glendale, Leixlip has denied membership of an illegal organisation styling itself the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Oglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA, on June 25, 2009.

During the five-day trial the court heard evidence from Detective Chief Superintendent Peter Kirwan that he believed O' Reilly was a member of the IRA on June 25, 2009.

But O'Reilly denied under oath that he was a member of the IRA.

Mr Justice Paul Butler, presiding, said the court would give its judgment at a later date.
