Gormley seeks meeting of political leaders

Green Party leader John Gormley is writing to the Taoiseach and Opposition leaders this afternoon seeking a meeting next week on the economy.

The Environment Minister wants to see if a consensus exists - or can be achieved - on a four-year budget strategy that must be submitted to Brussels next month.

Earlier Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin told reporters in Co. Armagh that it is not "rocket science" as to how the cuts are achieved.

He however refused to be drawn on whether the idea of a meeting of political leaders would help.
