Events planned to mark third anniversary of Riedo death

A number of events are taking place in Galway today to remember murdered Swiss student Manuela Riedo on the third anniversary of her death.

In October 2007, three days after the 17-year-old arrived here to study English, her body was found on wasteland near Lough Atalia.

Gerald Barry of Rahoon in Galway is serving a life sentence for her murder.

Manuela's parents Hans Peter and Arlette have travelled to Ireland for a special fundraising event to mark her anniversary.

Commemorative balloons will be released at 7pm at Lady's Beach, opposite the Galway Bay Hotel in Salt Hill and a concert of Irish music will take place in the Salt Hill Hotel at 8pm.
