Limerick assault victim dies

A 48-year-old Limerick man who had been fighting for life in hospital since being assaulted yesterday has died.

Joe O'Donnell, from Hyde Road, was found unconscious at his home yesterday afternoon.

He was transferred to the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick yesterday but lost his battle for life tonight.

A post mortem will be held.

Gardaí have been questioning a man for the past 24 hours in connection with the incident.
