Fallon & Byrne named on tax defaulters list
Dublin restaurant Fallon & Byrne was today named and shamed on the tax defaulters list.
Husband and wife Paul Byrne and Fiona McHugh, who run the upmarket eatery, made a settlement of €733,719 for under-declaration of VAT, which included €371,245 in fines and penalties.
Separately Mr Byrne and his father Peter Byrne also paid €400,000 and a further €244,058 in fines.
The pair are listed as building contractors from Walshestown, Newbridgetown, Co Kildare.
Revenue revealed that between April and June it was paid a total of €120m in outstanding settlements and fines.
It published the details of 83 tax defaulters who paid almost €17.2m.
Some 36 of those named exceeded €100,000, of which seven were half a million with three payments above a million.
The highest single amount of €1.67m was paid back by translation and interpretation services, Wordperfect Translations, of Fortlawn Park, Blanchardstown.
The figure included €823,037.35 in undeclared PAYE/PRSI and €850,390.97 in fines and penalties.
Solicitor and real estate investor Robert C Walsh, of Balnagowan House, Dartry, Dublin 6, paid more than half a million euro in undeclared taxes and a further 852,000 euro in penalties, taking his payments to €1.365m.
Josephine Meow Yoong Kam, a restaurant on O’Connell Street, Waterford, handed over €1.14m in declaration of tax and fines.
Elsewhere, building contractor PA Dunne, of Garryvoe Lower, Co Cork, paid the revenue just under a million euro in unpaid taxes and fines and Irish Car Rental, based in Westlink Business Park on Ennis Road, Limerick, was forced to hand over €834,157.
Some 22 people were fined for cigarette smuggling, nine for illegally selling cigarettes and seven for illegally selling fuel.
Nine businesses fined for failure to hold a liquor licence included Mercroft Taverns, which runs The Market Bar on Fade Street as well as Sherland Entertainments, owners of Cafe Bar Deli on South Great Georges Street. Each paid €630.
