Inquest continues into death of man in garda custody

The inquest into the death of a murder suspect has heard that a doctor's examination of him at a garda station was 'unusually long'.

Dwayne Foster, 24, was being held at Coolock Garda Station in north Dublin for questioning over the fatal shooting of Donna Cleary in March 2006.

Sergeant Michael Gormley today told the inquest into Mr Foster's death that he attempted to call several doctors after Mr Foster complained of a headache.

Dr Peadar Kirk examined him and said he was to be given the heroin substitute, methadone.

The medical examination last 55 minutes, which Sergeant Gormley today told Dublin City Coroner's Court was unusually long.

The Finglas man was later found unresponsive in his cell and a post mortem found he died from methadone intoxication.

The inquest into his death is due to conclude this week.
