Man dies in Roscommon crash

A man in his 50s has become the latest fatality on the roads.

A motorist was killed in an early morning collision today when his car crashed in to a wall.

The man, in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene on the N61, Athlone to Roscommon road, at Lecarrow.

The victim was travelling on his own when the accident happened at 6am.

His body has been taken to Roscommon General Hospital where a post mortem is expected to take place.

Meanwhile the N61 at Lecarrow has been closed and diversions are in place. The scene is being examined by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardaí at Roscommon have appealed for witnesses or anyone travelling on the road between 5am and 6am to come forward.
