Unions to hear HSE cut back plans
Health Unions will hear details today of cuts to jobs and working hours being planned by the HSE in the west of the country.
At a labour relations commission hearing in Galway, officials are expected to reveal that the HSE could be facing a budget shortfall of more than €90m if they don't take action now.
These talks come following revelations this week that a controversial consultancy report recommending where cutbacks could be made in the Western region cost the HSE €90,000.
The Mott and McDonald survey suggested the cutting of 1,000 jobs and the possible closure of one hospital in a bid to tackle a €90m deficit.
It is widely believed that Roscommon County Hospital could be the one to close which has prompted the organisation of a protest in the town this weekend.
When last before the LRC the talks broke up without any resolution.
Speaking ahead of todays meeting, IMPACT spokesperson Richie Carrothers accused the HSE of being "trigger happy" as they grappled with the so called overspend and put workers firmly in the firing line.
The discussions get underway in Merlin Park in Galway at 11am this morning
