Gardaí will this morning begin a widespread search of the area where a man's skull was found near Blessington in Wicklow yesterday.

The remains have been removed to Dublin where the State Pathologist will carry out a full examination.

Workers thinning forestry on private land at Manor Kilbride in Blessington discovered the skull of an adult man at around 1.20pm yesterday afternoon.

It is understood the skull wasn't buried and that no other remains have as yet been found.

The skull was removed to Dublin yesterday evening where the State Pathologist will carry out a detailed examination of the remains.

The garda dog unit along with a forensics team will carry out a widescale search of the area which has been sealed off since the grim discovery was made.
