Programme launched to tackle rural gay isolation

A new programme has been rolled-out to tackle the isolation and discrimination felt by Ireland's rural gay community.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Diversity programme aims to coordinate support services for people of diverse gender identities and sexual orientations.

The launch comes a day after the signing into law of the Civil Partnership Bill which gives legal recognition to same-sex couples.

LGBT Diversity's Programme Manager Derek McDonnell said the Bill was a step in the right direction, towards equality.
