The Department of Finance has today denied suggestions that it attempted to have one of the country's best known economists sacked from his job.

In an address to the MacGill summer school in Glenties, Friends First chief economist Jim Power said the Department made a formal complaint to his employer over his outspoken views 18 months ago.
