Naturist Association calls for nudist beaches

The Irish Naturist Association has called for some of the beaches around the Irish coast to be designated nudist.

The association said the designation could provide a boost to tourism by attracting thousands of naturists from all over Europe to enjoy the facilities here.

It has selected a list of candidate beaches, including some in Wicklow, Kerry, Dublin and Sligo. The group believes more than 80% of the general population would have no problem with the change.

President of the association Pat Gallagher said our chilly climate should be no barrier to naked enjoyment of our beaches, as naturists in the UK find the weather no obstacle.

"In the UK, it is estimated that about 2.5 million people take naturist holidays," he said.
