Man to appear in court in connection with attack on woman

A 39-year-old man is to appear in court this morning charged in connection with a serious assault in west Dublin.

Joanna Benko, 31, is fighting for her life in hospital after being attacked at her home in Mulhuddart on Monday.

Gardaí were alerted to the incident when a man walked into Blanchardstown Garda Station and told gardaí that he had attacked a woman.

Ms Benko sustained serious head injuries in the assault at her home on Ladyswell Road.

The mother of one was rushed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital in Blanchardstown but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

Her condition is being described as critical but stable.

Gardaí last night charged a 39-year-old man in connection with the attack and he will appear before Blanchardstown District Court later this morning.
