Asylum seekers will not be forced to move from Mosney

The group of more than 100 asylum seekers due to be moved from an accomodation centre in Co Meath to other locations will now not be forced to leave.

The Department of Justice wants to transfer 111 residents from Mosney to alertnative hostels in Dublin over the coming days as part of cost-saving measures.

However the Irish Refugee Council said it has been informed by the Reception and Integration Agency that those earmarked to leave will not be made to do so against their will.

"They are not going to force anybody onto the buses today," said CEO of the Irish Refugee Council Sue Conlon.

"They will send the buses again tomorrow and on Thursday, but if people do not get on them, they will not force them to go.

"They do not want to make a spectacle out of the whole situation."
