Man shot dead in Wicklow

A 60-year-old man has been shot dead in County Wicklow.

Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the incident in which the man sustained gunshot wounds at a house near Shillelagh.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and the body remains at the house while the Gardai await the arrival of the state pathologist.

A firearm was recovered at the scene and a man in his early 60's was arrested and is being detained at Baltinglass Garda station under section 30 of the offences against the state act.

The scene has been sealed off and a full investigation is underway.
