High Court Judge Liam McKechnie has been appointed to the Supreme Court, a government spokesman said today.

The move comes after the retirement of Mr Justice Hugh Geoghegan last month.

A graduate of University College Cork, Mr Justice McKechnie was called to the Bar of Ireland in 1972 and appointed a High Court judge in 2000.
