An inquiry has been launched by the prison service after a homeless mentally ill woman was forcibly removed from Mountjoy in Dublin when she refused to take up early release claiming she had nowhere to go.

The woman, a chronic drug addict in her 20s, was carried by staff from the facility on to the road outside the prison.
