Bruton sacking confirmed by Kenny

Fine Gael’s Enda Kenny tonight moved to dramatically defeat a leadership coup by sacking his second in command, respected finance spokesman Richard Bruton.

Mr Kenny forced his deputy leader out, preventing a challenge to his position at a meeting of senior party figures tomorrow.
