Council officials to vote on Páirc Uí Chaoimh revamp
Members of Cork City Council are set to vote this afternoon on a proposed €30m revamp of Páirc Uí Chaoimh, which would see the construction of a new 50,000-seater stadium and a "centre of excellence".
The proposed move would increase the ageing stadium's capacity by 7,000 using a two-tiered stand.
However the question outstanding is the size of the development, with Cork authorities fearing the development will impact on a planned Marina Park that forms part of proposals for the future of the city's docklands area.
The Cork County GAA Board wants six of the 25 acres of land purchased by the City Council from the Munster Agricultural society.
But it is now reported that the City manager is prepared to donate only two.
The GAA is hoping for strong support from councillors while the city manager is calling on them to reject parts of the multi-million euro proposal.
The issue is likely to be put to a vote at this afternoon's council meeting.
