Martin to act 'shortly' on forged passports scandal

Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin says he intends to act "very shortly" after forged Irish passports were used in the assassination of a Hamas military commander last January.

Martin was speaking to a meeting of the Oireachtas European Affairs Committee earlier.

Minister Martin told the Committee that he will soon decide what action needs to be taken and that he remains anxious that this issue be given the attention and focus it deserves.

He also says he wants to make sure the matter does not become confused with the issues arising from the military assault on the Gaza flotilla.

On that matter, he commented that he is hopeful the cargo of the MV Rachel Corrie, including cement, will reach Gaza and be allowed to enter the territory.
