FG call for Harney statement on miscarriage errors
The Health Minister is being called on make a statement after several women detailed how they were incorrectly told they had miscarried.
A third woman has come forward today to detail her experience of having been told her unborn baby had died - only to be later told it was still alive.
Fine Gael's Health spokesperson Dr. James Reilly said it is time for Minister Harney to address the matter.
"There is absolutely no place for her to hide any more," Dr Reilly said. "She cannot continue to put distance between herself and her responsibilities."
"This is a farcical situation," he added.
"It appears to me the HSE is totally out of control.
"The Minister refuses to take any responsibility for it, they refused to answer questions - this is an intolerable situation."
Fine Gael also called on the Health Information and Quality Authority to carry out an urgent review on Ireland's ante-natal services.
One of the women who has come forward, Elizabeth, is now 15 weeks pregnant, having been told in the early stages of her term that her baby had died.
She said she wasn't happy with how her hospital dealt with her case either.
"If you can't trust your doctor, who can you trust?" she said.
