Pair to go on trial for St Stephen's Day killing

A Co Louth man and woman are to go on trial today for the murder of Darren McKeown following a party on St Stephen's Day nearly three years ago.

Michael Cruise (aged 19), from Donore Avenue, Ballsgrove in Drogheda, and 21-year-old Louise Wall from Cranmore, Clogherhead, deny the charge.

The two accused replied not guilty when a charge of murdering Darren McKeown was put to each of them at a brief court appearance yesterday.

Mr McKeown, who was from Co Meath, died after being assaulted at a Christmas party on December 26, 2007.

It is alleged by the State that the 29-year-old was killed at Rowan Heights, Rathmullen in Drogheda.

Michael Cruise and Louise Wall also deny a second charge of violent disorder.

A jury of six men and six women has been sworn in for the trial which is due to last around three weeks.
