Gardaí name Wexford crash victim

Gardaí have named one of the two men in their twenties who were killed in separate road collisions in counties Cork and Wexford.

At just before 1am this morning, 23-year-old John Murphy, from Boolavogue in Co Wexford died when the car he was driving hit a ditch on the Monamolin to Ballinastraw road, near Ballyedmond.

Less than two hours later, a 24-year-old Polish man was killed in a single-car accident on the Halfway to Crossbarry road, close to Ballinhassig in County Cork.

A passenger in the car, another Polish national in his 30s, was seriously injured - he is being treated at Cork University Hospital.

It brings to four the number who died on Irish roads this weekend.

Yesterday, a man in his twenties from Listowel in Co Kerry died on the roads in Co Limerick while a man in his forties was killed in a crash in Co Kildare.
