The number of women travelling from Ireland to England and Wales for an abortion has decreased over the last year.

Figures released by the UK Department of Health show that 12 women a day are travelling to Britain for terminations.

In 2009, a total of 4,422 women with addresses here had an abortion in England or Wales, 178 fewer than the previous year.
