Study: Children of professionals likely to achieve more Leaving Cert points

A new study has found that children of professionals get an average of 90 points more in their Leaving Cert than those born to manual workers.

The research, which looked at thousands of Leaving Cert students, also found that students of other "white collar" workers get an average of 50 points more.

The data also showed that a student whose father is unemployed gets an average of 30 points less.

The study was carried out by Dr. Kevin Denny from the UCD Geary Institute.
