Gardaí shoot man in Cork city pub

A man has been shot by gardaí during an incident in a pub close to Cork city centre.

The shooting happened at Macushla Bar on Blarney Street at 6.40pm this evening.

The man has been taken to Cork University Hospital where he is in a serious condition.

It is understood the man went into the pub brandishing what is thought to have been a shotgun in the direction of customers and staff.

Gardaí were alerted and members of the Armed Regional Support Unit arrived in the scene. They confronted the man in the pub and discharged a number of shots.

It is believed the man was shot in the stomach.

The scene has been sealed off pending further investigation.
