Scientists have said the ash plume from the Icelandic volcano that has been causing travel chaos has declined in the last few days.

The spread of ash rising from the volcano dropped to under five kilometres in width yesterday for the first time, measuring just three kilometres.

Volcanic activity has also decreased to a large extent, but scientists are warning this could be a calm phase before further eruptions.
